Hi, thanks for visiting this page... Here is a little bio about me...
My name is Gina, I am the creator of the MythiCute Dragons. I have been sculpting these little guys for a few years, and I absolutely love creating them.
I am a 40-something, married mother of two boys, I am from the UK, a Yorkshire lass, born 'n bred.
I have something of an alternative, Gothic style. I love anything spooky, supernatural, mythical, and fantasy... The stranger it is, the more I seem to like it.
I have always been creative, mainly using traditional mediums, pencils, paints, pastels, etc. Then when I left school I did graphic design at college, and it moved me on to more technical, structured art. If I'm honest, I didn't enjoy it as I found it far too restricting in what I could create.
I was diagnosed with a debilitating neurological condition called Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in my early 20s and over the years it became increasingly difficult to create anything due to various increasing MS symptoms and cognitive issues. This was very frustrating because art is the only thing I have loved doing ever since I was big enough to scribble on my bedroom walls.
I dabbled with digital art and photography, creating gothic fantasy photo manipulations using Photoshop (PS), trying to adapt to the changes in my life that I was experiencing, just so I could still keep creating art and keep myself busy. I have never been what you would call a "professional", art has always been a hobby, something to do in my spare time.
It became difficult to concentrate and remember simple functions on PS, or to even draw a straight line or hold a paintbrush...
BUT... I refused to give in, I saw a video on Polymer Clay and I decided to give it a go, that is when the MythiCute Dragons was born. I chose to make dragons because they are fantastic mythical beasts, and I am, according to the Chinese zodiac calendar, a fire dragon!!
It has been my lifesaver...
It is my art therapy, it keeps me sane, and it makes me happy.
It can still get frustrating, especially when my dexterity is not behaving which is more often than I like to admit, but clay is soft and I can make myself a stress ball, so it's fine...and It keeps my creative streak happy. My sculptures are by no means perfect, but they are cute, unique, and special in every way!
It is still a hobby and that is the best for me. I love what I do, and I hope you do too.
